Brazil begins receiving Argentine corn
Jun, 11, 2021 Posted by Ruth HollardWeek 202125
The first loads of Argentine corn imported by Brazilian companies such as BRF and JBS began to land in Brazil. Brazil is looking towards its neighbors for corn to deal with the national crop failure, domestic prices at record levels, and high demand from the meat industry.
A shipment of about 35,000 tons arrived at the end of May in the port of Paranaguá, in Paraná, and another load of approximately 30,000 tons arrived in Rio Grande do Sul, in the middle of last week. Another four ships of corn from Argentina should dock in June, according to data from the maritime agency Cargonave, which also includes the Santa Catarina terminal of Imbituba as a destination.
“Ships have already arrived and have been unloaded. In addition, wheat has also been imported for animal feed, not just corn,” Ricardo Santin, president of the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), told Reuters, commenting on the alternatives for companies that produce pork and chicken, whose costs are increasing due to the price of raw materials for food.

JBS bought 30,000 tons of Argentine corn via the port of Imbituba, according to a note to Reuters, after being questioned.
BRF, the largest global exporter of chicken meat, confirmed to Reuters the importation of Argentine corn but preferred not to give details.
Aurora stated through its press office that it is evaluating purchases in Argentina but that it is not carrying out the operation “yet.”
In all, between volumes unloaded and forecast for June, Brazil must internalize 191,000 tons of Argentine corn via ships.
