Revenues from Brazilian beef exports fell 8% in October

Data from the Foreign Trade Secretariat (SECEX) compiled by ABRAFRIGO (the Brazilian meat packer’s Association) shows that the country’s beef exports (fresh and processed) reached 189,600 tons in October, providing US$ 790 million in revenue. In relation to the same month of 2019, the volume fell by 4% and the revenue fell by 8%. Despite the deceleration in October, the cumulative total for the first ten months of the year showed a 9% rise in shipment volumes to 1.65 million tons, and the value of sales increased by 16% to US$ 6.8 billion. China (including Hong Kong) imported 948,100 tons from January to October, valued at US$ 4 billion. In the same interval of 2019, there were 625,260 tons valued at US$ 2.64 billion. After China, the largest importer of Brazilian meat was Egypt, with purchases of 113,330 thousand tons in 2020 thus far, a 27.4% drop compared to the first ten months of 2019. Chile came next, importing 71,510 tons, down 25.6%, and Russia imported 51,210 tons, down 16%.
